Vermeil is a gold plating onto Sterling Silver. All Vermeil pieces stocked, or made, by Golden Snowdrop are plated in 18ct yellow gold to a minimum thickness of 2.5 microns. This is much thicker than standard gold plating with far better wearability. How long this will last does depend on how your piece is worn and the type of piece. Items such as rings, that have more contact and movement will wear more quickly than earrings etc. To prolong the life of your vermeil pieces we recommend, as with all jewellery, that pieces are removed for sleeping, washing or swimming. Contact with chemicals and perfumes should also be avoided. A soft jewel cloth is recommended for cleaning. We offer a replating service for any items of jewellery should you need it, whether for pieces created by us or purchased elsewhere.
The Collections Personal Story:
Designed by our founder Stephanie Longhurst in early 2021 to celebrate the opening of Golden Snowdrop Jewellers in October 2020. This was a natural collection to create given the name of the store. The symbolism of the snowdrop - new beginnings, hope, rebirth and the ability to overcome challenges - fitted perfectly with the time we opened the store, just after the first 2020 Covid lockdown, but it also tied in with Stephanie's own journey and of course Shaftesbury's own connections to Snowdrops and our beloved and iconic Gold Hill.
We look forward to this story continuing and our pieces finding further meaning with you.
