Sand Dollar large necklace.
Made from a real Sand Dollar, Sand Dollars are a type of sea urchin, related to starfish, and their skeletons can be found along tidelines in a similar way to starfish.
They hold many different legends and meanings depending on the culture.
Our personal favourite is that they represent mermaid money, but they are also said to symbolise unity, transformation and freedom.
They show nature at its most intricate, with a delicate five petaled flower depicted on them and are also called "Sea Pansies".
This necklace also works well on a longer chain and layered with others.
Handmade in yellow gold vermeil by us at Golden Snowdrop Jewellers in Shaftesbury, Dorset.
Sand Dollar measures approximately 40mm in diameter
Please select your preferred chain style. Photographed on a belcher link chain.
The Collections Personal Story:
Developed in 2019 this collection was inspired by Stephanie Longhurst's childhood memories of visiting Florida.
Being told at age 5 these were "mermaid money" she perhaps hoped they would pay for passage to the secret world of Atlantis!
She remembers being instantly fascinated by the intricate patterns and details on them, and being shown how a broken one often contains five "doves". Always five though, never more or less, isn't nature magical?
Now they remind her of sunshine and deep blue sea as well as to always appreciate the beauty of nature. If you look at the different sizes we use throughout the collection you can see the fascinating growth process of them perfectly captured within the metal.
